Common ground

What serious Holistic Life Coach programs share.

ICF core competencies as the backbone

All three programs build their curriculum on the International Coaching Federation (ICF) core competencies. That alignment supports their ICF accreditation and lets graduates count training hours toward ACC or PCC credentials. iPEC holds Level 2 accreditation, CTI Level 1 and Level 2, and Strozzi Institute an ACTP program at PCC level.

Mentor coaching

Mentor coaching appears in every program, one-on-one and in groups. iPEC includes 6 individual sessions with a Mentor Coach, CTI's Deepen the Work includes 10.5 hours of mentor coaching, and Strozzi Institute lists 4 individual sessions and 3 group mentor coaching calls within its 14-month certification.

Peer practice in rotating roles

Students coach one another in rotating roles of coach, client and observer. CTI organizes weekly practice pods of 9 to 10 people, iPEC includes peer practice between its live modules, and Strozzi Institute combines retreat work with peer coaching and live video calls between retreats.

Intensive blocks with remote study between

Each provider alternates multi-day intensives with remote sessions. iPEC runs 3 live modules of 3 days with weekly webinars, CTI splits Ignite the Practice into 3 plus 2 days before its Deepen the Work modules, and Strozzi Institute holds four 4-day retreats connected by live video calls.

Recorded or observed sessions

CTI and Strozzi Institute assess real coaching sessions. CTI certification includes a live exam and the evaluation of a recorded session. Strozzi Institute includes 4 video reviews of observed coaching and a final video submission. iPEC certification combines live modules, mentor coaching and self-study assignments.

Differences

Where the programs differ.

Energy, Co-Active or somatic model

iPEC teaches Core Energy Coaching, with 7 levels of energy and the proprietary Energy Leadership Index assessment. CTI teaches the Co-Active model, focused on deep listening, values and relationship. Strozzi Institute teaches somatic coaching, where body assessment, breath, moods and emotions sit at the center of the coaching process.

Virtual, hybrid or in person

CTI's 2026 pages describe live virtual training with practice pods. iPEC lets students take its live modules in person or virtually. Strozzi Institute is hybrid, with four in-person retreats of 4 days and live video calls between them, a less common format among U.S. coaching schools since 2020.

Staged credentials

CTI and iPEC offer intermediate steps. CTI awards the Co-Active Practitioner after Ignite the Practice, then the CPCC after Deepen the Work. iPEC sells Coaching Fundamentals alone at $1,995 before the full CPC and ELI-MP program. Strozzi Institute runs one 14-month certification that includes its Embodied Transformation prerequisite.

Tuition and length

As published in September 2026, iPEC charges $9,995 for 7 to 10 months part time. CTI's full certification path totals $10,470, with Deepen the Work lasting 5 to 18 months. Strozzi Institute charges $18,325 for 14 months, or $15,950 for alumni, with 5% off when paid in full.

How to choose

How to choose a Holistic Life Coach certification program.

  1. 1

Decide whether you need an ICF credential

If you plan to seek an ACC or PCC credential, choose a program whose ICF accreditation level covers the training hours required. Harmonika Institute's CHLC is a private certification that is not ICF-accredited; one teaching day maps professional credential pathways for graduates who want one later.

  2. 2

Pick a coaching model you believe in

Energy-based, Co-Active and somatic coaching each shape how you listen and what you notice. Read the published curriculum, join an introductory session when one is offered, and choose the model whose vocabulary you would use with clients every day.

  3. 3

Weigh the format against your schedule

In-person intensives and retreats require travel and time off, while virtual programs fit around work but ask for camera time from home. Check whether modules are live or recorded, how many weeks separate them and what practice is expected in between.

  4. 4

    Look at practice and feedback

Ask how many coaching sessions you will lead before certification, who observes them and how they are scored. CTI evaluates a recorded session, Strozzi Institute uses video reviews, and Harmonika Institute scores an observed practical assessment on eight competencies with two assessors.

  5. 5

    Budget for the full path

Add every step: prerequisites, core program, specializations, mentor coaching and travel. At CTI the full path totals $10,470, at Strozzi Institute the tuition includes the prerequisite, and at iPEC the COR.E Dynamics specialization adds $1,995.

Questions

Holistic Life Coach certification programs: common questions.

How much does life coach certification cost in the U.S.?

Among the three ICF-accredited programs compared, published tuition in September 2026 is $9,995 at iPEC, $10,470 for CTI's full certification path and $18,325 at Strozzi Institute, which includes its prerequisite. Entry steps cost less: CTI Foundations is $490 and iPEC's Coaching Fundamentals is $1,995 when bought alone. Harmonika Institute's tuition appears in the comparison table.

How long does it take to become a certified life coach?

iPEC lists 7 to 10 months part time, with 3 live modules of 3 days. CTI's Ignite the Practice takes 5 days, and Deepen the Work runs 5 months on the Fast Track or up to 18 months on the Flex Track. Strozzi Institute's somatic certification lasts 14 months, built around four 4-day retreats.

Can I train as a life coach online, or do I need in-person classes?

Both options exist. CTI's 2026 programs run live online with practice pods. iPEC offers its live modules in person or virtually. Strozzi Institute combines in-person retreats with live video calls. Harmonika Institute teaches its CHLC in person, with triad practice across the teaching days and a real session with a volunteer client before assessment.

Do life coaches need a license or ICF accreditation?

Coaching is an unregulated profession in the U.S., so no state license is required. The ICF is the main quality reference and accredits training at Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. iPEC, CTI and Strozzi Institute publish ICF accreditation. Harmonika Institute's CHLC is a private certification, not a license, and is not accredited by outside bodies, including the ICF.

What is a holistic or somatic life coach?

A holistic or somatic coach brings the body, breath and emotions into the coaching process alongside conversation. Strozzi Institute builds its certification on somatic awareness, bodywork and breathing. iPEC addresses physical and emotional blocks within its energy model. Harmonika Institute adds body awareness, breath, journaling and creative tools, always offered with the client's consent.

What is mentor coaching in a coach training program?

Mentor coaching means working with an experienced coach who listens to your coaching and gives feedback on competencies. It is part of all three ICF-accredited programs compared: 6 individual sessions at iPEC, 10.5 hours within CTI's Deepen the Work, and individual plus group mentor coaching calls at Strozzi Institute.

Methodology

How we compared these programs.

We selected three ICF-accredited coach training programs with a long track record, large graduate numbers or recognized influence, and a published structure: iPEC, Co-Active Training Institute and Strozzi Institute, the reference for somatic coaching. Low-cost self-paced programs and schools without ICF accreditation were set aside. Data comes from each provider's website, collected in September 2026. Tuition, schedules and formats change, so confirm details with each provider before enrolling.
