Mandala certification in the U.S. is a small field with three lineages: Tibetan Buddhist, Jungian and assessment-based. Published programs range from a 20-hour live webinar course ($1,100 plus materials) to 100-hour and 225-hour paths. None of the three focuses on leading group workshops. Choose by tradition, whether you want to lead groups and the time you can give.

All three programs teach the mandala's background. Tara Mandala works within Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Creating Mandalas covers the history, anthropology and psychological meaning of the mandala, and MARI grounds its tool in Jungian psychology and Joan Kellogg's study of mandalas, as published on each provider's website in September 2026.
Tara Mandala requires 225 hours of personal practice across three levels before certification, and Creating Mandalas asks students to create a mandala for each stage of the Great Round during its intensives. Both see the student's own experience with the mandala as the base for working with others.
