The practitioner builds rapport, agrees on a focused goal, and uses an induction (progressive relaxation, fixation on a point, conversational misdirection, or rapid induction depending on the client) to guide the client into a comfortable hypnotic state. Once there, the practitioner offers carefully designed suggestions oriented to the client's stated goal, then guides the client back to ordinary waking awareness. A first session is typically 90 to 120 minutes; follow-ups are 60 to 75 minutes.
