Certified Expressive Art Facilitator · New York, NY
Expressive Arts Facilitation training in New York.
Expressive Arts Facilitation draws New York applicants from fashion and media who spent years making things and want to bring drawing, painting, and collage to wellness settings. Why Expressive Arts Facilitation in New York?
Facilitators here run small groups and workshops in East Village studios and community spaces, often for people who left creative careers and miss making work with their hands. Demand leans toward wellness and self-inquiry rather than clinical care. Keep the scope honest: this is facilitation for growth and expression, and clients who need clinical support should be referred to a licensed professional.
New York's wellness market is unlike any other in the country: it's where modalities are tested, refined, and exported. The five boroughs hold thousands of yoga studios, several hundred spas, and a thriving network of independent practitioners working in everything from Reiki to expressive arts. The career-changers who train with us in New York typically come from finance, media, fashion, and tech — they've spent a decade or more in highly cognitive work and want a practice that puts them back in the body, with their hands, in front of real people. Public transit makes attendance from across the metro realistic for full training days, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For students of Expressive Arts Facilitation specifically, New York's scene is a particularly good match: highest density of yoga studios per capita in the u.s. strong demand for in-person, lineage-aware training. The local cohort runs in venue partners around DUMBO, Williamsburg, NoMad, with public transit and parking accessible from across the metro.
New York applicants tend to be 35-50 years old, often coming from a decade or more in finance, law, media, fashion, advertising, or tech. Many have stable income, well-developed personal yoga or meditation practices, and clear evidence in their lives that the office-driven life is not sustainable. They are sophisticated consumers of wellness content and skeptical of training that overpromises. They want lineage clarity, real practice hours, and a credential they can speak about credibly with the friends and former colleagues they expect to bring as their first paying clients.
What you'll be training in.
For a deeper introduction to Expressive Arts Facilitation as a practice tradition, see the full program page.
Expressive arts facilitation is the practice of supporting other people in using creative process — drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, mixed-media — for wellness, personal growth, and self-knowledge. The facilitator is not a therapist (and the work is not therapy in the clinical sense). The facilitator is more like a thoughtful host: designing prompts, choosing materials, holding the time and the room, and supporting the participant's own process while the meaning stays with its maker.
The work happens in three main formats. Group studios are 90- to 180-minute facilitated sessions for groups of six to twenty participants, working with shared materials around a theme (grief, transition, identity, embodiment, joy). One-on-one expressive arts sessions are 60- to 90-minute private appointments, often part of a longer arc, where the facilitator works with a single participant on more personal material. Themed retreats are multi-day or weeklong intensives, often residential, that braid expressive arts with movement, meditation, or contemplative practice.
